Purpose and History
Recipients of this award are recognized as globally preeminent individuals whose work reflects the role model for professional contributions that was established during the careers of the three founders of the International Academy for Quality: Dr. Kaoru Ishikawa, Dr. Walter E. Masing, and Dr. Armand V. (Val) Feigenbaum. In their careers, these men combined academic pursuit and pragmatic leadership in promoting the content of managing for quality and pursuit of the global cause of “Quality for Humanity.” Common characteristics considered in the career of a successful candidate would include: proposal of original theory or significant advancement of new theories that clarify the meaning of quality and its pragmatic application as evidenced by their teaching, consulting, writing and speaking. Such a candidate would exhibit the highest standards of behavior in the conduct of their affairs with individuals, organizations, and nations. The nominee must be judged a role model of integrity. Personal characteristics would exude a selfless dedication to global promotion of the cause of quality at both the national and international levels as evidenced by their volunteer service and innovative leadership. Finally, there would have been a broad recognition of their exceptional contribution through numerous awards at the highest levels that have been conferred upon them by a variety of national governments, educational institutions, professional societies, and other organizations.
Purpose and History
The IAQ Founder's Medal recognizes contributions of Academicians who have rendered especially distinguished service to the Academy in a variety of ways: administratively increasing the performance capability of the Academy, technically contributing to the quality technical or managerial body of knowledge, or publicly enhancing its prestige.

The IAQ Marcos E. J. Bertin Quality in Governance Medal recognizes exceptional contributions to the practice or development of sound principles of good governance based on application of quality-related principals and methods.
Purpose and History
The IAQ Quality Sustainability Award was established in 2020 to recognize how the philosophy, methodology, and tools of quality management have been used to achieve more sustainable development. This award is given to projects that have successfully linked quality to sustainability and have the main purpose of promoting a more fact-based, results-focused, and improvement driven sustainability work. Dr. Riccardo Dell'Anna (1955-2005) was an exceptional example of a business-based quality Academician. He was executive vice president responsible for the automotive bearing business unit of SKF, the Swedish based multinational where he had previously served as Vice President of Quality.
Purpose and History
The IAQ Walter E. Masing Book Prize is awarded annually to honor the memory of Dr. Walter E. Masing (1915-2004), one its founders and an Honorary Member. Dr. Masing was a founder of both the IAQ and the European Organization for Quality (EOQ), where he served as its first president and was named an Honorary Member. He was president of the German Society for Quality (DGQ) for twenty years and was named Honorary President upon his retirement.

The IAQ Yoshio Kondo Academic Prize was established in 2009 to recognize sustained performance in exceptional published works by an Academician. This award honors IAQ Past Chair and Honorary Member Dr. Yoshio Kondo for his sustained contributions to the Academy in administrative and operational capacities and his exceptional contributions to the field of quality through extensive academic research.
